Dan McCane is a Northeastern Kentucky artist well known for his detailed architectural renderings of historic landmarks in various drawing and painting mediums.

 

                                           

  

Dan McCane is a Lewis County, Kentucky artist. Born in 1952 in MaysvilleKY, Dan took to art as soon as he was able to hold a pencil. Throughout his childhood, Dan developed an appreciation for automobiles, trains and architecture. He would draw his favorite subject matter from memory, stressing the details that he had observed. His interest continued as he entered Lewis County High School knowing that he wanted to get into art classes as soon as possible.

 

After high school in 1970, Dan attended Maysville Community college and later transferred to  Morehead State University. He majored in art and minored in mathematics, receiving a Bachelors of Arts degree with a teaching certificate in 1976.

 

Dan began his teaching career in the fall of 1976 at Tollesboro High School in Western Lewis County. He taught art and math at THS for 16 years before transferring to Lewis County High school in the fall of 1992. He retired from teaching at LCHS in 2003 after 27 years in the Lewis County school system.

Dan currently teaches art at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio and online art history classes for Maysville Community &Technical College in Maysville, KY.

 

Dan and his wife Portia live in Vanceburg, Kentucky. Together they have four grown children and 10 grandchildren. He owns and operates the Dan McCane Gallery in Vanceburg where is able to continue creating his art using the subject matter that he has always loved.
